Proof of the Legal Texts

For each legal text on this website, the text of the page from the heading onwards is recorded, without navigation, header and footer, and its SHA-256 checksum is anchored in the Bitcoin blockchain via OpenTimestamps. Listed per version are the checksum, the block, the Merkle root and the proof files.

Scope

The text existed in this version no later than the time of the block.

About the Merkle root

Every Bitcoin block carries a single value in its header that summarises its entire content: the Merkle root. What is timestamped is the manifest of the version, which contains the checksum of the text. The proof file contains the complete chain of calculations from the manifest to the Merkle root of the block named. This root can be retrieved from the raw data of public block explorers, not through their search field.

Independent verification

Download the proof files of the version concerned: page.txt, manifest.json and manifest.json.ots.
Recalculate the checksum with shasum -a 256 page.txt. The result must match the checksum shown and appear in the manifest under sha256_text.
Verify the timestamp with ots verify -f manifest.json manifest.json.ots from the opentimestamps-client package. With your own Bitcoin node the command fully confirms block and time. Without one, the verifier at opentimestamps.org does the same.
In addition, compare the Merkle root shown with the header of the block named in a public block explorer.
